Phases of Galactic evolution as traced by stellar populations and star clusters
LOCATION: Sexten Primary School - Via Panorama 6, Sexten
DETAILS
Our knowledge and understanding of the Milky Way, its current properties and its evolution over time, is undergoing a profound change thanks to the unprecedented amount of data from the Gaia mission and complementary spectroscopic surveys such as APOGEE, GALAH and LAMOST. At the same time, numerical simulations have reached sufficient resolution and implement the physical processes required to capture the complex structures (kinematic, chemical and age patterns and their combination) discovered in the observational data.
This meeting aims to bring together researchers working on our Galaxy to update the community on the state of the art, to identify upcoming challenges and promote discussions to prepare strategies for the next generation of observations and models. The main topics of this workshopwill be the formation scenarios of the Milky Way components, the physical mechanisms at play, their interaction and their timing in the cosmological context.
