ICSC/Spoke-3 Final Meeting: The Future of HPC in Astrophysics and Cosmology
LOCATION: Haus Sexten - Via Dolomiti 45, 39030, Sexten
DETAILS
The National Center on High-Performance Computing (HPC), Big Data e Quantum Computing (CN-HPC in short) is a project created and managed by the ICSC Foundation. It is one of the five National Centres funded within the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The Centre promotes and supports research and development activities to advance HPC, and big-data analytics. A cutting-edge infrastructure for HPC and big data management uses existing resources and upcoming technology. The CN-HPC is organized according to a “Hub and Spoke” paradigm, which organises and distributes operations to achieve this goal. The Hub has a management and coordination role, while the 11 Spokes of the Centre implement, optimise, and improve infrastructure (Spoke 0) and conduct R&D in 10 strategic scientific areas.
Spoke 3 – Astrophysics and Cosmos Observations – aims at the exploitation of cutting-edge solutions in HPC and Big Data processing and analysis for problems of interest in the following research area: Cosmology; Stars and Galaxies; Space physics (Earth, Solar and Planetary); Radio Astronomy; Observational Astrophysics and Time Domain; High Energy Astrophysics, Cosmic Microwave Background; Large Scale Structure of the Universe, Clusters of Galaxies; Multi-messenger Astrophysics; Numerical Simulations and Modeling. Spoke 3 is expected to finalise its activities by the end of 2025.
This workshop represents the final event of the Spoke. As such, it has the objective to present and summarise all activities conducted throughout its funding period, highlighting the main achievements and their impact on innovation, science, and society.
The workshop will be organized combining contributions from the complementary activities of the SPACE Centre of Excellence, supported by the European Commission within the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme, with the aim of advancing to exascale paradigms seven of the most utilised European codes. The workshop will facilitate the exchange of experiences and the integration of results from these two projects.
Specific focus will be dedicated to the presentation of the results obtained within a number of projects that fostered a close and factual synergy between the Academia (Public Research Centers and Universities) and private enterprises through Innovation Grants and Cascade Funding initiatives. These projects facilitated technological and knowledge transfer while promoting collaborations and the exchange of ideas and expertise between the scientific community and industry.
The Workshop will represent an opportunity to discuss the future and the perspectives of the National Centre and ICSC toward its “2.0” , post-PNRR implementation.
