Galactic Archaeology in the Gaia Era
LOCATION: Sport & Kurhotel at Bad Moos - Via Val Fiscalina 27, 39030, Sexten
DETAILS
In this meeting, we aim at bringing together observers and theorists to investigate the evolution of the Milky Way after the release of the Gaia DR2 catalogue.
This catalog is essentially complete between G=12 and G=17, even if the source list for the release is incomplete at the bright end and has an ill-defined faint magnitude limit, which depends on celestial position. Therefore, we expect significant improvements in 2018 in the derivation of all the stellar parameters, most commonly used in investigating the mechanisms of formation of abundance gradients in the Galaxy and the evolution of Galactic stellar populations. In particular, we plan to discuss in our meeting the results achieved about stellar locations, velocities and velocity dispersions, chemical abundances and ages, and any potential source of selection bias and systematic errors.
Different theoretical models of the Galaxy formation and chemical evolution will be also discussed and their predictions for the key observables will be presented in an attempt to reconstruct the formation and evolution of the Milky Way through galactic archaeology.
